JAZZ IN PORTISHEAD

“A Jazz club has started at Clarence House, High Street in Portishead. The resident band will be the Muskrats Jazz band, whose members are local musicians. They will play mostly traditional jazz, with a touch of more recent numbers. We will invite other bands to perform, and to have some Jam sessions.

8.30pm . Admission will be £3 at the door.

This is the first time that jazz will be played in Portishead on a regular basis, at first on the first Thursday of the month. Please turn up and be entertained. There is a bar and a large car park at Clarence house.

I would like any Interested local musicians to get in touch with me on 01275814434. Charles Baete.”

Latin-jazz at El Puerto every Wednesday

The latin-jazz thang is going great at El Puerto on Prince Street in Bristol (7.30pm to 10pm every Wednesday) - we've got a different trio or quartet every week and this year there's been some brilliant musicians with me including Greg Cordez, Valere Speranza, Jon Short, Dale Hambridge, Andy Christie, John Martin, John Lambert, Anders Ollinder, Andy Kinsman, Gary

Alesbrook, Walter Dirks, Lisa Cherian, Greg White & many more - it was great to have Andy Kinsman and Gary Alesbrook there just prior to their recording session with Noel Gallagher, a real treat for everyone.

Come down and get a beer and some great Spanish food.

I've also started a series of interviews with musicians which are available on YouTube and at www.6withnick.co.uk - they include jazz vocalist of the year, Claire Martin, along with Andy Kinsman, saxophonist and painter, and James Morton saxophonist with a new album out - there is also a 6withNick facebook page.

JAZZ SOCIETY SOCIAL MEETS - tuesdays from 7.30pm

From committee member Jackie Crespin.

"Since The Plume of Feathers closed we have been unable to find a music venue for a Tuesday, due mainly to the financial situation, landlords are not looking to pay out money for bands, some have had to cut payments to existing groups, So we decided to try something a bit different, we have found a small pub that would welcome us with open arms, it has just been refurbished and has a very friendly atmosphere, the staff are great and although there is a room upstairs for live music eventually it is still a work in progress, however, until that is sorted we can use their sound system to play our kind of music and have a good evening.

The pub is
The Horse and Groom, it is situated behind the Council House, a number 8 bus will take you to College Green and is a 2 minute walk from there and there is a car park opposite and on road parking outside , all in all a good spot, to get to parking just turn down by the Mauritania, easy."

If you are a Jazz Society member and would like email updates between the quarterly newsletters, please email Jackie Crespin, jdlcrespin@btinternet.com
